Free or Low-Cost Health Insurance?
This is indeed good news for the unemployed people who can not afford health insurance, and we all know how expensive health care can be.
As of Thursday, zero-premium health plans that come with minimal or no cost-sharing — i.e., deductibles and copays — are available through the Affordable Care Act marketplace to individuals collecting unemployment at any point this year.
“People who have been unemployed at any point this year essentially can get very generous or free health coverage,” said Cynthia Cox, a vice president at the Kaiser Family Foundation and director of its Affordable Care Act program.
The financial help was authorized in the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act, which was signed into law in March by President Joe Biden. “Even if you were unemployed earlier this year but have gained employment, if you still have no coverage, you can get it now,” Cox said. “You’d just have to demonstrate you were deemed eligible for unemployment benefits.”
“Generally speaking, [enrollees] are people who can’t get insurance any other way — not through their work or their spouse’s work or through Medicare or Medicaid,” Cox said.
Final Words
This is indeed a great opportunity for the people of the US. Will other countries follow the role because in these times of need, unemployment had increased a lot, and a little help will be going a long way.
“For now, though, people should act when there is an enrollment opportunity,” Cox said. So that is the advice that people should focus on right now. Thanks for reading our article Free or Low-Cost Health Insurance?. Continue reading and have a good day.
